Boko Haram: Buhari Blames Corruption For Military’s Past Failures

Nigeria’s President has blamed corruption as being responsible for the inability of the Nigerian military to defeat Boko Haram when it began to launch its attacks.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who was speaking at an audience with the Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb, describes the loss of 14 local government areas in Borno State to the militants as an embarrassment.

The President noted in a statement that measures taken by his administration to curb corruption and equip the front line troops, have left Boko Haram almost completely incapacitated.

He expressed his gratitude for the support of Muslims across the world for Nigeria’s war against Boko Haram,

“You can’t kill the innocent in churches or in mosques and shout Allahu Akbar,”

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s determination to resettle all persons displaced by the insurgency.
