Usain Bolt is to compete at the London Anniversary Games.

Jamaica’s two-time Olympic 100m and 200m champion has struggled with injury this year but will return for the event at the Olympic Stadium from 24-26 July.

Bolt, 28, has run just five times this season, clocking a 100m best of 10.12 seconds in April.
Justin Gatlin, Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay have all run faster, with American Gatlin leading the field with a season best of 9.74 seconds.

Bolt, who holds the 100m and 200m world records, is an eight-time world champion and has won six Olympic gold medals in his career, three of which came in London in 2012.

“I have great memories of competing in the Olympic Stadium in the summer of 2012 and in the previous Grand Prix meets in London,” he said.

“The British fans are always great and I expect there will also be a lot of Jamaican fans. It will be amazing to put on another show for them on the Friday night.”

A pelvic injury forced Bolt to withdraw from Diamond League races in Paris and Lausanne in June, and he also pulled out of the 100m at the Jamaican national trials at short notice.

He had been planning to compete in the race to improve his form for August’s World Championships in China, which he qualifies for as defending 100m and 200m champion.
