Pele and Neymar?
Brazilian icons past and present.
One is the country’s greatest ever goalscorer, the other is the current national team captain and poster boy.
But, according to a survey in Brazil, they’re not as popular as you might think.
That’s because, according IGBE, more people are called Zidane than Pele, Neymar and Lionel Messi put together.
Zidane’s resonance in Brazil cannot be underestimated, as 827 living Brazilians are named after the France legend.
He leaves Pele (112), Neymar (454) and Messi (76) in his wake as the most influential footballing name in the country.
Interestingly, there are also 283 Shakiras.
