‘Furious’ Mangala ‘refused Valencia loan’

Eliaquim Mangala: Reportedly refused to consider Valencia loan

Manuel Pellegrini has refused to comment on reports that Eliaquim Mangala ‘reacted with fury’ at Man City’s bid to offload him to Valencia.

City completed the £31.7million capture of Nicolas Otamendi from Valencia on Thursday, but it’s been claimed that City tried to offer France defender Mangala to Los Che on loan as part of the deal.

And reports over the weekend suggest the former Porto defender – himself a £31.8million capture last summer – was ‘furious’ at City’s attempts to offload him and ‘point-blank refused’ to consider the move to Spain.

Mangala struggled for form during his debut season at the Etihad but was nonetheless said to be fuming that City wanted to offload him just days after arguably his best performance for the club in last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea.

Pellegrini, however, has refused to discuss Mangala’s situation, telling the Sunday Mirror: “I don’t talk abut rumours. I think it doesn’t matter.”

The City boss, however, did say: “I think that Mangala wanted to stay, I wanted him to stay, and he’s here. I don’t deny it, but I’m not saying it’s true, I’m not saying nothing about that. Maybe you know more than me.”

City now plan instead to send promising young Belgium international Jason Denayer out on loan for another season with Marseille reportedly in the running to sign him.

Pellegrini, meanwhile, looks set to stick with Mangala in the heart of his defence when City face Everton on Sunday after the City boss claimed it would be “impossible” to put Otamendi straight into his side at Goodison Park.
