Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Premiere Date Announced

Game of Thrones‘ highly anticipated sixth season will premiere on Sunday, April 24, HBO announced on Thursday, January 7.

The Emmy-winning series’ new season will consist of 10 episodes, with the premiere date getting announced at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour in Pasadena, California. This is the latest premiere date that the show has ever had.

Anticipation for new episodes of the popular series, based on the books by George R.R. Martin, is seemingly always at a fever pitch. But that’s especially the case this season, as fans continue to twist in the wind over whether Jon Snow (Kit Harington) is really dead.

The character appeared to meet his demise last season after he was stabbed multiple times by his brothers of the Night’s Watch. Snow has appeared in marketing for the new season, leading to speculation that he might be revived, although Harington, 29, has stated in recent interviews that the character is in fact a goner.

Martin, 67, blogged earlier this month that the sixth Game of Thrones book, The Winds of Winter, is not yet finished and that there is “a lot still left to write.”

Game of Thrones premieres on HBO Sunday, April 24, at 9 p.m. EST.
