Kaduna to spend N800m on foreign scholarships

Gov. Ramalan Yero of Kaduna State, on Wednesday in Kaduna, said the state government had set aside N800 million for foreign scholarships for its indigene students.

He made the disclosure while inaugurating the seven-man committee saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the scholarship scheme in the state.

He said the scheme was to enable indigene students to study special and selected courses abroad.

The governor said the initiative would go a long way to improve the education standard of the students, who would turn out to be useful for the state and the nation in future.

Yero added that the beneficiaries of the scholarship would study relevant courses that would be in line with the quest for technological advancement of the state.

He advised the committee to take the assignment serious and ensure proper coordination.

Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Prof. Shehu Abdullahi, said the scheme would assist students to enroll in courses not available in the country.

Abdullahi commended the state government’s initiatives to give scholarship to the students, saying the committee would work hard to produce credible report within the stipulated two weeks time frame given it.
