At just 16-years-old, Gianluigi Donnarumma is not your average teenager, he’s already turning out for 18-time champions AC Milan in the Italian Serie A.

The youngster had played for Milan in pre-season, including in a friendly against Real Madrid, but this was his first competitive action for the Italian champions, and in the process he became the youngest goalkeeper in Serie A history, with Gianluigi Buffon only making his debut at the age of 17. Donnarumma was promoted to Milan’s first team by new manager Siniša Mihajlović as third choice goalkeeper. He was amongst the squad for the pre- season tour of China in July 2015, where Milan was set to face Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the 2015 International Champions Cup.

On 25 July 2015, in the first match against cross-town rivals Inter, Donnarumma was an unused substitute with Milan winning 1–0 thanks to a Mexès goal. Five days later, he made his Milan début during the match against Real Madrid by replacing Diego López in the 72nd minute, keeping a clean-sheet for the rest of the match, but was one of two Milan players to miss his penalty shootout attempt in a eventual 10–9 loss.

On 25 October 2015, Donnarumma made his competitive début for Milan, starting and playing the full 90 minutes in a 2–1 win against Sassuolo. He was played in favor of Diego López after three matches without a win., making him the youngest goalkeeper ever to play in Serie A. Donnarumma was praised for his performance, with Diego López calling him ‘the future of Milan’.

International Career

Donnarumma was the starting goalkeeper of Italy U17 at 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship in a eventual quarter-final exit by France U17, who later won the tournament.

Personal Life

Donnarumma’s older brother, Antonio, is also a goalkeeper, who currently plays for Genoa. and Alfredo, a striker who currently plays for Salernitana
