NBC Bans Olamide’s ‘Don’t Stop’ Over Vulgar Lyrics

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has banned Don’t Stop, a song by Olamide Adedeji, a Nigerian rapper better known as Olamide Baddo or Baddo Sneh.

Don’t Stop, a track on Olamide’s 2015 album ‘Eyan Mayweather’, was banned for containing ‘obscene, indecent, vulgar language’.

In a letter dated March 11, the commission directed that the song be placed on the No To Be Broadcast (NTBB) list.

“The commission has observed the lyrics of a musical titled Don’t Stop by Olamide,” the letter stated.

“The musical, replete with vulgar lyrics, contravenes section 3.6.1 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code which states: Obscene, indecent, vulgare language, lewd and profane expression, presentation or representation is not allowed.

“Expressions like Wa gba ponron, I just want to hit you now, now je kin wo be, it took your mama 9 months to make it etc are unacceptable in context.

“You are by this letter requested to place Don’t Stop by Olamide on NTBB list.”

This is Olamide’s second track to be banned by NBC, the first being Indomie.
